I really thought that I was going to write some extravagant beautifully worded blog about love. But I just want to share what God has been showing me through Scripture and by leaning on Him. God's love for me is endless. The book of Hosea shows God's faithfulness to his people, the Israelites, even though they are unfaithful. To understand how we show love, is only to know how God loves, and we can only truly love a shred of a shadow of a molecule compared to God's infinite love! The only capacity we have to love is because God first loved us. That the claim of the Bible! 1 John 4:19 says just that "We love because He first loved us." So we can in fact show love. But the object of our love has to be God. Anything else is simply idolatry. Yet, I know in my life how often do I run to my sin before running to the arms of God. But I know His love is faithful. I think that is the best synonym for love: faithfulness. Despite our sin "God shows His love for us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8). Faithfulness. Jesus was a gift of love (John 3:16) and His love is best described by three adjectives: selfless, steadfast, and sacrificial. This is the love of God.
Like I said earlier, the object of our love has to be God. I want to offer to God a steadfast love to Him (Hosea 6:6) Loving others really only works when it is a natural outpouring of our love for Father God. God is the object of our love, so I want to run to His embrace. Then we can live love out and practice 1 John 4:12-17. verse 11 says this: "Beloved if God so loved us, we ought to love one another."
This is really what God has been showing me. But is can be summed up simply by the word of my Saviour. These are the two commandments of Christ: Love God with all your being, and love your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:36-40). Lets seek the love of God.
sincerely, jlock
