I read this when going through a commentary of 2 Timothy. The passage is 2 Timothy 2:1-7 and it is regarding the illustrations that Paul used to demonstrated how Timothy should suffer for faithfulness to the gospel of Jesus Christ. This phrase was an encouragement to me, if you come across this maybe I will also be an encouragement to you!
"When everyday life becomes an entanglement to ministry, when the pursuit of life apart from ministry results in God’s displeasure, when believers are no longer willing to suffer the pain to which all godly people are called (3:12), then they, like Timothy, are no longer good soldiers and no longer please the one who enlisted them."
Our aim alone is to please God and not man. I am reminded of Galatia s 1:10, "For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ." While my heart has drifted off to think that there are some seemingly "good" things to pursue and suffer for in this world, we have lost our focus and it needs to be first centered back on our loving Father, then on the joyful work that we have to suffer for His glory.
"for your glory Lord, we've been made and we've been formed ... God of grace exalt your name in this my joy shall sustain, what you've done for your fame brings my heart to glorious praise" - Brandon sharp from his song "For Your Glory"
